The role is an on-site Lead Network Engineer responsible for leading a small team and overseeing the design, upgrade, security, sustainment, monitoring, and maintenance of complex, accredited enterprise networks. The position involves end-to-end network engineering, from architecture and integration of new technologies to troubleshooting, documentation, and long-term operations.
Key Responsibilities
Lead and manage enterprise network design, upgrades, security implementations, and sustainment.
Evaluate and integrate new network technologies; advise COTR/PM and project leadership.
Plan and design network configurations to ensure optimal performance and compatibility.
Configure, maintain, and troubleshoot Cisco (and other vendor) routers, multilayer switches, and network encryption devices.
Design and plan network communications systems and manage small projects from inception to implementation.
Support senior leadership and coordinate with CIO and external IT organizations.
Monitor network health, diagnose failures, and restore services.
Conduct network testing, topology surveys, and lifecycle engineering activities.
Produce technical documentation, schematics, Layer 2/3 provisioning, and Configuration Control Board materials.
Present technical solutions to engineering review boards.
Mandatory Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in a technical field or 4 years of equivalent experience.
10+ years of experience in network configuration, maintenance, and full lifecycle engineering.
Advanced knowledge of enterprise networking, especially routing and switching (Cisco preferred).
Strong expertise in VLANs, trunking, multicast, and network security appliances.
Extensive hands-on experience with routers, switches, encryption devices, and workstations.
